Later #47 a movie: 'Jane Eyre'

Saw the Sydney Film Festival movie premier of ‘Jane Eyre.’ This is the 23rd re-make of the classic Charlotte Bronte novel, set in the Victorian England countryside. Mia Wasikowska (from the last Alice in Wonderland re-make) is the ultimately victorious Jane who has lived a lifetime of suffering and solitude by age 19.
Stunning seasonal visuals create a harsh environment which allows Jane to wallow and hide in the isolation which the bleakness provides. The movie is also successful in capturing the contrast between immense gender and class discrimination with Jane’s naïve capacity for embracing anyone that shows her any amount of kindness. This is not an uplifting film, but it does inspire. The production is authentically classic British quality and that alone makes it worth watching. 7/10.
