Later #45: a movie: ‘The Human Resources Manager’

Saw the movie ‘The Human Resources Manager’ and you should see it too, but it’s hard to explain why. There is no dynamic plot and no jaw-dropping performance. This is essentially a road trip, although a road trip like no other. Forget ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ and ‘On the Road’ and get ready to strap yourself into bleak landscapes filled with ordinary people, all just trying to get by.
The tragic death in Israel of an employee of a bakery requires the HR Manager to return the body from where she came, into the deep reaches of an agrarian east European country, there to sign the papers to release the body to the family and to hand over her meagre possessions. Opportunities to stop his journey and to return home to life in Jerusalem keep presenting themselves. So why does the HR Manager choose to go on? Perhaps the answers are simple, but the journey is surely unique. Oh, and none of the film’s characters have a name, but they are memorable and colourful! 8/10.
