Later #49 a movie: ‘Mozart’s Sister’

Saw the movie, ‘Mozart’s Sister.’ This is based on the true story of Mozart’s travelling musical family during his formative years as a composer and player up to age 12, although we are firmly focused on the travails of sister Nannerl. In a caring family, Nannerl may have been as equally gifted as her brother Wolfgang, but in 18th century Europe, a woman was not allowed to play violin and go to the schools where composers learnt their craft.
With dignity and grace, she fought against the natural order of things, encouraged by members of the French Royal family. The crisp music of Mozart takes your breath away. The close ups of all those who are hypnotised by the music draws you into the emotion they themselves must be feeling, doubling your own. The costumes and settings mostly in Versailles and Paris are spectacular. For a truly moving experience of classical sound and the emotions that they stir, this is a movie you must see. 8/10.
