This is the remake of the famous John Wayne film starring Jeff Bridges as Marshall Rooster Cogburn and Matt Damon as a Texas Ranger who works in his shadow. A 13-year old smart-ass girl (Hailee Steinfeld) seeks to avenge the cold-blooded murder of her father by the evil but very stupid, Tom Chaney, wanted in 2 States – at least!
Guns, horses, rattle snakes, gambling,’ Indians, cussin’ – it’s all there for movie western lovers. Except that Bridges words are often so lazily enunciated and hence difficult to follow, which really doesn’t matter, this is an earthy remake by the very clever Coen Brothers. 6/10
