Later #38: a movie: 'Barney’s Version'

While you start out thinking this must be a comedy about the mistakes one man makes through horribly forgetful relationships, until he finds his true love, what you find is a story about what it means to find true love at the most unexpected moment – and then still find a way to mess it up.
Paul Giamatti as Barney is not any woman’s dream guy, but he made it his business to make sure he was someone’s. Rosamund Pike as Miriam is a beautiful, sultry character who you can’t help but want to love. Stick with this longish movie, mostly set in Montreal, which has many surprises and, some great Leonard Cohen numbers. Dustin Hoffman as Barney’s dad is sensational. 8/10
